Microchipping is the current method for permanently identifying pets. The microchip is a rice-shaped capsule that can

be injected into the shoulder blade area without anesthesia. You can also buy accident insurance with some microchip

implant companies. Humane Societies, pounds and veterinary clinics all have the scanner. USA is not on international

standards yet. For security in US travel you would need a second microchip or get the old chip installed (but you

could have problems reading them in Canada. Our scanners read both.)
